What Is Engine Torque?
There are two values that keep showing up in car listings and spec sheets: horsepower (HP) and torque (Nm). - Turbocharged engines: See a noticeable jump in torque once the turbo kicks in (after any "turbo lag").
A car that delivers "a flat torque curve across a wide RPM range" means the drive feels balanced and strong at every speed.
Why Is Torque Different in Electric Vehicles?
The sense of torque changes completely in electric vehicles: an electric motor produces its maximum torque instantly, from 0 RPM. That's why electric vehicles feel much quicker and more "instant" off the line than a petrol car with similar horsepower on paper — there's no turbo lag or need to build up RPM to wait for.

Where Does High Torque Matter Most?
- Towing a trailer/caravan: High torque keeps a loaded vehicle from struggling off the line and on hills.

- Think about the torque-to-weight ratio. A lightweight car with the same torque figure will feel more agile than a heavy SUV.
